Orlando International Airport (MCO) has inaugurated the first of four new Gate Link trams that connect Terminals A and B to Gates 100-129. These new trams are designed with greater standing space and a modern aesthetic, contrasting with the older models, which have served for decades. The duration of the tram ride is around 1 minute and 30 seconds. The overall investment for the Gate Link tram modernization project amounts to $253 million.
Angela Starke, senior vice president of public affairs for the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority, emphasized the significance of this upgrade for passenger predictability and reliability. While the legacy trams are still in operation, airport officials have yet to disclose the fate of the retired vehicles. Local residents and travelers are encouraged to propose creative uses for the decommissioned trams, such as luggage tags and key chains, via a public survey. The entire replacement project is anticipated to be completed by winter 2027.
