More than 100 years after its founding by disabled veterans post-World War I, the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) organization held its 2026 National Convention in Orlando, Florida, gathering thousands of members to discuss and set directives for the future. The convention allowed attendees to reflect on their service, reaffirming commitments to the mission of supporting veterans and their families.
During the event, John Donovan was elected as the new national commander, succeeding Coleman Nee. Donovan, a service-connected disabled Navy veteran, underscored the need for unity and growth among members to enhance DAV’s advocacy efforts. The convention included contributions from VA officials, who highlighted the significance of partnerships with DAV in advocating for veterans’ healthcare and benefits. DAV’s collaborative efforts at the convention facilitated direct claims assistance for attendees, greatly expediting the processing of several disability claims.
